The Seiko 7548 (and 7546) movements are my favorite Quartz movements, only surpassed by modern High Accuracy Quartz movements from the likes of Swiss makers (even then they are sometimes only 3 Jewel) and Grand Seiko, the 7548 being 5 Jewel and the 7546 being 4 and metal parts unlike modern movements. They were made from 1979 to 1985, for dating the first character is the last digit of the year of manufacture and the second is the month. For the 7548 Divers I can sometimes source genuine bezel inserts and I can get good aftermarket hands from China, Crystals are also available (mineral, sapphire, double domed, anti-reflective coating etc., depending on how much you want to spend), also straps and bracelets and I would strongly suggest new high quality seals (Case back, crown and bezel but not crystal unless specified, from $50). Personally I normally perfer to keep things like the bezel insert original (I will always return the old parts that were replaced with the watch), although for my daily (third photo at the top, on the bracelet), I changed the hands and bezzel insert as I actual use all functions. Even if I replace the seals I can't guarantee the water resistance as I don't yet have a pressure tester but I've had no troubles with mine which is my daily watch (I have three actually, I love them that much). I have a lot of experience with these and either have or can source parts. I used to buy these dead for $50 repair/service them and sell them for about $100 but to get a good one these days you are looking at about $500 and they are only going to go up in price. To identify these the code on the back (underlined below) will let you know the movement. I am also very capable and can be contracted to do Seiko mods on for example SKX's or complete custom builds for a price. I have suppliers I trust for most things, believe it or not some of the Chinese stuff is really very good, if you know what you are looking at.
A happy customer asked if he could give a testimonial so I said I'd work something out so here it is and a photo of Steve's watch below, I was most happy with how it turned out as I always am, and Steve is happy which is the most important part. 'Amazing service from Doug - he fixed the date wheel on my Seiko 7548-700B. Not only did he repair and service the movement, but also installed a new crystal and gasket kit. Excellent communication throughout the whole process - would definitely recommend!' Steve H.
Another happy customer, he had new hands but unfortunately they didn't fit and I couldn't find any in my stocks so had to put the originals on, he has ordered new ones. “Doug did a great job servicing my 7548. He was communicative, accommodating, and got it done in record time! I would recommend anyone to use his services and I am very impressed by how knowledgeable he is.” Zach
